Lincoln is a residential suburb located 12 miles northwest of Boston. The community is rich in history with a strong tradition of citizen participation. The school district serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through eight. In addition to the K-8 Lincoln School, the district operates the Primary School and Middle School at Hanscom Air Force Base and an Integrated Preschool on the Lincoln campus. Lincoln has a long tradition of educational excellence and strives to offer innovative, student-centered instruction in an inclusive setting with small class sizes. As a founding member of the METCO Program, Lincoln has maintained its commitment to diversity and multi-cultural education.Faculty members at each school are organized in grade level or specialist teams that promote collaboration and a positive professional learning environment. There are many ongoing team, school and district level projects that involve teachers in curriculum, assessment and instructional planning.
The district has recently implemented a revised teacher evaluation program, designed jointly by faculty and administrators, which sustains high professional standards and helps teachers to develop their skills and professional knowledge.
With the full support of the School Committee there is a core belief in the value of professional development for faculty. New faculty members participate in a Teacher Induction and Mentoring Program that is responsive to different needs of incoming faculty. There is a tradition of supporting intensive summer curriculum planning projects and participation in many in-district and out-of-district professional development institutes, workshops and conferences. There is a tuition reimbursement program to support faculty who enroll in graduate level courses that are related to their teaching assignments, school and district goals and their individual professional development plans.
