Dear Families,
Over the years, I’ve received persuasive letters from students advocating for various changes, including more recess time, different lunch options, the end of mask mandates (remember, this was at the close of 2021!), composting programs, and the elimination of plastic straws in our cafeteria. I’m happy to report that the last two have become a reality! We no longer use plastic straws in order to reduce waste and protect marine life. Our composting program is thriving as well. Before we started composting, we produced about 30 bags of garbage each day during K-8 lunches. This year, we've composted 11 tons of food waste, and our lunch trash has been reduced to just 4 bags a day. These changes reflect our school’s commitment to environmentalism and stewardship—values that extend beyond our walls and into the broader community. While other factors also played a role in pushing forward the "no straws" and composting initiatives, the student letters were powerful drivers of change! We are quickly approaching the winter break. Don't forget, the lost and found will be taken to donate this week. Be sure you or your child checks one last time before Wednesday dismissal!Wishing you and yours a happy and healthy holiday season!Sincerely,
Sarah

Did you leave something behind? We want to help reunite you with your child's lost items! Check the slides below to see if any of your belongings are in the Lost & Found. Any unclaimed items will be donated on 12/18/24! A huge thank you to the 6th grade volunteers for taking the photos!
Helping Your Child Learn Responsibility: Keeping Track of Their Things
As part of building important life skills, it's a great time to help your child practice responsibility by keeping track of their personal items. Encourage them to check for items at recess, in their cubby/locker or classroom for anything they might forget. Extra layers are "the most forgotten" items. Together, you can create simple routines like packing their bag the night before or making a checklist of essentials for school. These habits not only help prevent lost items but also teach kids how to stay organized and accountable!
Let's work together to support our students in taking ownership of their belongings—and their responsibilities!

Calling All Young Writers!
The September 25th PTO Minilink included descriptions of PTO Enrichment activities written by 5th grader Josiah Chow. The PTO invites enthusiastic young writers to contribute to the PTO Newsletter! If your child would like to share their thoughts, stories, or insights about their experiences with past PTO Enrichment programs or upcoming enrichments for their grades, we’d love to hear from them. You can email their submissions to enrichment@lpto.org or drop them off in the PTO Enrichment Box located in the cafeteria.
Let’s inspire the next generation of writers together!
