    Dear K-4 Families,

It was an exciting week here at the Lincoln School K-4!

Mrs. Blumberg, School Librarian, wrote about the K-4 Mock Ezra Jack Keats award on the Lincoln School Library Blog:

For the past six weeks, kids in grades K-4 have been studying books for our Mock Ezra Jack Keats (EJK) award. We read seven books published in 2024 and evaluated them based on the criteria below and that I shared in my February update.

    Mock EJK Judging Criteria

During this past week, each child cast their vote for the book they believed should win. We gathered in the auditorium this morning (3/13/25) for the big reveal. Two children from each grade level presented the nominees to the rest of our K-4 community and everyone cheered when they learned that The Blue Pickup by Natasha Tripplett won our silver medal and CHEERED when they learned We Are Definitely Human by X. Fang won our gold. This was such a FUN community-building activity... I'm already looking forward to another Mock EJK award NEXT year.

Ask your child which book they voted for and why!

In other exciting library news, we had over FIFTY Lincoln School students enter the MSLA bookmark contest. I am thrilled to announce that we had a Lincoln School winner! Congratulations to Saige Hamilton for her bookmark design judged to be the winner of the 2nd & 3rd grade division by the MSLA bookmark judging committee. You can see all of this year's winners here

Congratulations to the 2nd Grade students on their wonderful Poetry Celebration! Poems were posted throughout the Learning Commons and the students stood by to read their poetry and share their thoughts with families and staff. Many thanks to the 2nd Grade Team: Ms. McGrath, Mrs. Nageotte, Ms. Webster and Ms. Emily!

Many thanks to the caregivers who came to the Principal's Coffee to talk about our CARES Systems.  The slides we discussed can be found by clicking here or scrolling down!

    Sincerely,

    Sarah

    March 13, 2025

    Dear Families,

We are excited to be preparing for the 2025-26 kindergarten classes and look forward to meeting the families of our youngest incoming students!

Children must have reached the age of five (5) before October 1, 2025 to enter Kindergarten. The Lincoln Public Schools also enroll employee children who have been approved by the School Committee and Boston resident students through the METCO Program.

We ask families whose children are kindergarten eligible to complete the Intent to Enroll form linked here. The information you provide assists us with planning and allows us to communicate directly with you. If you indicate that your child will or may join us, we will send you updates including the Kindergarten Parent Information Night in April, the Kindergarten Orientation Day in June, and when the 2025-2026 registration portal is active.

If your child is currently enrolled at the Lincoln Preschool you do not need to register online since they are already enrolled in the Lincoln Public Schools.  We do, however, appreciate receiving the Intent to Enroll Form!

We look forward to welcoming your child and working with you to ensure that your child’s first school experience is a happy and successful one!

    Sincerely,

    Sarah Collmer

  • FUN COMMUNITY EVENTS FOR A GOOD CAUSE!

After a hiatus from COVID, LPS is restarting the 8th grade trip to Washington D.C. this year! To help defray costs, 8th graders and parents have organized several community events (please see the Save the Dates below).  First up is an evening just for grown-ups!  On March 16, from 7-9PM, dazzle friends with your uncanny ability to recall random factoids at Trivia Night.  Conveniently located at our local gem the Tack Room, $45 gets you admission and appetizers.  Come as a team (up to 6) or ready to join one!  Trivia goers also get an exclusive first look at items that our generous Lincoln community and 8th graders have donated, which will be available through an online auction.  Auction will open to the public afterwards.  Register now, as spots are limited!

Lincoln250 Revolutionary War Writing: Cursive Workshop for Kids

    Thursdays, March 6, 13, 20 from 4-5pm

Write like it’s 1775! Have you ever wanted to write and read cursive? In this three week workshop, children in grades 4-6 will learn the different formations for lower- and uppercase letters, practice writing a variety of words (including their names!), and look at historical documents from the Revoultionary War era.  Registration required. Participants are encouraged to register for all 3 sessions.

Lincoln250: American Revolution Role Playing Adventure for Grades 6+
    Tuesday, March 15 from 2-4pm

Join Librarian Game Master Casey to play through an American Revolution adventure based on real events (specifically Henry Knox's retrieval of the cannons from Ticonderoga) while using the rules and conventions of Dungeons & Dragons. Will the dice rolls change history? We'll see! Characters will be pre-made, with dice and everything provided (although feel free to bring your own). The program goes for two hours to give us plenty of time to work through the adventure. No previous knowledge of Dungeons & Dragons needed. Interest in American History is preferred. Registration is required. Any questions, feel free to email Casey at cchwiecko@minlib.net.
