Dear K-4 Families,

The first-grade hallway features a new "Kindness Notes" installation, celebrating the culmination of their EL Module, Be a Maker! Solve Problems and Create Fun! Through interactive read-alouds, hands-on exploration, and collaborative discussions, students investigated the history and impact of tools both simple and revolutionary—from zippers and erasers to lightbulbs and eyeglasses. By analyzing the design process, students built critical vocabulary, developed informational reading and writing skills, and learned that anyone, regardless of age, can be an inventor.
For their final "Maker Mission"—a collaborative project designed to solve an everyday problem—1M decided kindness was the ultimate solution. Their wall of Kindness Notes provides a heartwarming reminder to all who pass by! Stay tuned for upcoming Kindness Boxes from 1N and Boxes of Joy from 1E.

In other news, Lincoln School art teachers Pam DiBiase and Taryn Caria recently brought students to the School Committee meeting for the Student Learning Spotlight. The students presented their artwork, shared what they love about art class, and thanked the School Committee for their continued support.

Enjoy the featured artwork pictured below:
  • Preschool: Painted Leaf and Birch Tree Collage
  • 2nd Grade: Mexican Folk Art–Inspired Alebrijes
  • 4th Grade: Louise Bourgeois–Inspired Spider Drawings
  • 8th Grade: Psychedelic Art and Sculpture

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,
Sarah

Coin and Dollar Drive to benefit

The logo for The Greater Boston Food Bank, featuring blue text and a red square with a white wheat stalk design.
We are excited to announce that our school is doing a coin and dollar drive to support the Greater Boston Food Bank! This is a great opportunity for our students to make a difference in our community and learn how even small acts of kindness can have a big impact.

Every $3 donated will be matched and help provide 4 meals to families in need! Every coin and dollar counts, and together we can help provide meals to families in our community.
We would love for each student to participate by earning money at home through a chore or helpful household task. A task can be a way to earn $3. This is a wonderful way for students to connect their hard work with giving back to others.
Here are some ideas for ways students can earn money:

  • Cleaning their room
  • Taking out the trash
  • Reading to a younger brother or sister
  • Helping with yard work
  • Setting the table or helping with dishes
  • Folding laundry
  • Helping organize a shared space
  • Pack their lunch and maybe their siblings
  • Bringing in groceries, unpacking them
  • Watering plants

Teachers sent out a slip to fill out with your student's name, the task they completed, and the amount of money they earned for that task.  If your student completes more than one task, that's great! Please list each task and the amount earned. Students can then bring in the task slip with the money they earned to contribute to our drive.

Our goal is to help students see that everyone can make a difference, no matter how small the contribution. We are proud to be part of a community that cares for others, and we appreciate your support in helping us make this drive a success.

Please contact Principal Collmer if there is financial hardship and we can subsidize a donation based upon your child's task slip.

We will connect donations through November 20th.

Recap and Resources

Click here to view the Helping Kids Navigate Friendships to explore recommended book lists, articles, and podcast episodes from Dr. Damour on handling friendship breakups, bullying, and social conflict.

Quick Highlights from Dr. Damour’s Presentation:
  • Help Without Fixing: Sometimes kids just need a safe space to be heard before jumping to advice or a plan.
  • Teach Healthy Conflict: Help kids move past passive aggression ("doormat with spikes") or aggression ("bulldozer") to stand up for themselves respectfully.
  • Empower Bystanders: Remind kids they don't have to handle bullying alone—they can speak up, comfort a peer, or inform an adult.
  • Create "Traffic Patterns": Kids find friends through regular shared activities—increasing their time in these spaces helps them connect with the right peers.
