K-4 Family Updates Newsletter

October 30, 2026

A green chalkboard with a wooden frame displays white text that reads "A Message from the Principal".
Dear K-4 Families,

As you know, we have a large team of educators participating in the math curriculum review team led by Steph McKenna, STEM Curriculum Coordinator for the district. Many of our Lincoln K-4 classroom teachers are "piloting" the two curriculum that are under consideration for adoption in 2027-2028 school year. So far, the teachers have had very positive feedback and are seeing a notable increase in student engagement.
As you can see below, Superintendent Graham was an active participant with kindergarten students showing same, more, and less!

It was wonderful to have caregivers joining us for Community Meeting this morning!  We announced a Coin Drive for The Greater Boston Food Bank and are encouraging students to do acts of service at home to earn coins to donate. We'll send out details soon!

Wishing everyone a safe and fun weekend!

Sincerely,
Sarah

Día de Los Muertos Celebration Honoring Tradition, Memory, and Community

Sunday, November 1st, 2026
3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Movement Room (by the Reed Gym) on the Lincoln Campus
Admission FREE

All students, families, and community members are warmly invited to join us for a vibrant Día de Los Muertos celebration! Come together to honor loved ones, enjoy traditional treats -
Delicious Churros & Warm Hot Chocolate - and experience the rich cultural heritage of this joyful holiday.

Ofrenda Photo Submission
The ofrenda (altar) is a sacred traditional space created to honor and remember those who have passed before us. We invite our school community to contribute to this special display.
Students are encouraged to turn in a labeled picture of a loved one who has passed (pets included) to Señora Sykes by Friday, October 30, 2026, if they wish it to be included in the Ofrenda.

Please make sure the back of each photo is clearly labeled with the student's name and the name of the loved one so that all pictures can be safely preserved and returned following the event.

Celebration Highlights
  • Community Ofrenda Display: Admire the traditional altar decorated with golden marigolds, bright papel picado, candles, and photos.
  • Complimentary Treats: Enjoy fresh, sweet churros and authentic hot chocolate with family and friends.
  • Cultural Experience: Learn about the symbolism, music, and art that make Día de Los Muertos a cherished time of remembrance.
We look forward to sharing this memorable and meaningful afternoon with you!

Recap and Resources

Click here to view the Helping Kids Navigate Friendships to explore recommended book lists, articles, and podcast episodes from Dr. Damour on handling friendship breakups, bullying, and social conflict.

Quick Highlights from Dr. Damour’s Presentation:
  • Help Without Fixing: Sometimes kids just need a safe space to be heard before jumping to advice or a plan.
  • Teach Healthy Conflict: Help kids move past passive aggression ("doormat with spikes") or aggression ("bulldozer") to stand up for themselves respectfully.
  • Empower Bystanders: Remind kids they don't have to handle bullying alone—they can speak up, comfort a peer, or inform an adult.
  • Create "Traffic Patterns": Kids find friends through regular shared activities—increasing their time in these spaces helps them connect with the right peers.
