K-4 Family Updates Newsletter |
Dear K-4 Families,
Our second graders took the stage this week to perform a collection of beautiful fall songs, along with one spooky seasonal favorite—"Ghost of John"! We had a full house to enjoy their sweet voices and festive ribbon routines. A huge thank you to Mrs. Hoffman and our second graders for all the hard work that went into such a delightful performance.
Important Reminder: Personal Items & Toys Please ensure students leave toys, playing cards, fidgets, action figures, and stuffed animals at home. These items cause distractions during class and lead to heartbreak if a cherished personal item is lost or broken.
We understand some students need items for the LEAP after-school program. If so, please place those items in a dedicated LEAP bag that stays zipped inside your child’s backpack during the school day.
Thank you for helping us keep the focus on learning!
You're invited to come to our Community Meetings! All staff nd students meet in the Learning Commons for some Community fun! Please wait until 8:10 to come in so we can get all of the students to their classrooms. We'll have a sign-up table in the lobby and "Friends and Family" seating set up between the Library and 3rd Grade hub. We hope you can join us!
Sincerely, Sarah |

All students, families, and community members are warmly invited to join us for a vibrant Día de Los Muertos celebration! Come together to honor loved ones, enjoy traditional treats - Delicious Churros & Warm Hot Chocolate - and experience the rich cultural heritage of this joyful holiday.
Ofrenda Photo Submission The ofrenda (altar) is a sacred traditional space created to honor and remember those who have passed before us. We invite our school community to contribute to this special display. Students are encouraged to turn in a labeled picture of a loved one who has passed (pets included) to Señora Sykes by Friday, October 30, 2026, if they wish it to be included in the Ofrenda.
Please make sure the back of each photo is clearly labeled with the student's name and the name of the loved one so that all pictures can be safely preserved and returned following the event.
Celebration Highlights - Community Ofrenda Display: Admire the traditional altar decorated with golden marigolds, bright papel picado, candles, and photos.
- Complimentary Treats: Enjoy fresh, sweet churros and authentic hot chocolate with family and friends.
- Cultural Experience: Learn about the symbolism, music, and art that make Día de Los Muertos a cherished time of remembrance.
We look forward to sharing this memorable and meaningful afternoon with you! |

Quick Highlights from Dr. Damour’s Presentation: - Help Without Fixing: Sometimes kids just need a safe space to be heard before jumping to advice or a plan.
- Teach Healthy Conflict: Help kids move past passive aggression ("doormat with spikes") or aggression ("bulldozer") to stand up for themselves respectfully.
- Empower Bystanders: Remind kids they don't have to handle bullying alone—they can speak up, comfort a peer, or inform an adult.
- Create "Traffic Patterns": Kids find friends through regular shared activities—increasing their time in these spaces helps them connect with the right peers.

For parents, caregivers, educators, and community members who support children and teens of all ages. Do mornings feel rushed? Is homework a daily challenge? Does your child need frequent reminders to get organized, manage time, start tasks, or follow through? Executive functioning skills—the skills that help us plan, organize, manage time, regulate emotions, and complete tasks—are essential for success at home, in school, and in everyday life. Sarah Ward will share practical, easy-to-implement strategies to help children and teens strengthen these skills and develop greater independence and confidence. Participants will learn how to support young people in organizing materials, managing time, breaking tasks into manageable steps, creating effective routines, and taking greater ownership of their responsibilities.
Participants will leave with tools to help young people: - Build effective study habits and homework routines
- Organize materials and manage tasks
- Better understand time and plan ahead
- Initiate and complete assignments more independently
- Develop confidence and self-advocacy skills
This interactive program will provide caregivers with practical strategies they can begin using right away to help children and teens become more organized, independent, and prepared for the demands of school and life.
