K-4 Family Updates Newsletter

October 9, 2026

A green chalkboard in a wooden frame with blue and gold pennant banners and the text 'A Message from the Principal'.
Dear K-4 Families,

A big thank you to the PTO for funding our Kindergarten Enrichment with the Discovery Museum! Students dove into hands-on science using soap bubbles to study shapes and colors. By testing common assumptions—such as whether all bubbles are round, clear, or easily popped—students built essential observation and comparison skills through experimentation. They also had a lot of fun!

Our math curriculum pilot is officially underway! Kindergarten through Grade 3 classes launched the Amplify math pilot this week, showing immediate excitement and high engagement. The Amplify Desmos math curriculum has problem-based learning and partner work. There is a high emphasis on students sharing their reasoning and strategies. 4th Grade will start their pilot unit next week.

Mrs. B celebrated the upcoming centennial of Winnie-the-Pooh with 3rd grade library classes by reading Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World's Most Famous Bear by Lindsay Mattick. With the official 100th anniversary of the original publication approaching on October 14, students enjoyed learning about the real-life bear behind the beloved story—whose original stuffed animal friends are still on display at the New York Public Library!

There is no school on Monday in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day. To honor the day, consider exploring the Framework for Essential Understandings about American Indians from Native Knowledge 360°, an educational initiative from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian. It highlights the rich cultural diversity and history of Native peoples from Indigenous perspectives.

Sincerely,
Sarah

Building Executive Functioning Skills with Sarah Wardes here

Monday, Oct. 26, 2026
7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Kennedy Middle School (Auditorium)
165 Mill Street
Natick, MA 01760

For parents, caregivers, educators, and community members who support children and teens of all ages.
Do mornings feel rushed? Is homework a daily challenge? Does your child need frequent reminders to get organized, manage time, start tasks, or follow through? Executive functioning skills—the skills that help us plan, organize, manage time, regulate emotions, and complete tasks—are essential for success at home, in school, and in everyday life.
Sarah Ward will share practical, easy-to-implement strategies to help children and teens strengthen these skills and develop greater independence and confidence. Participants will learn how to support young people in organizing materials, managing time, breaking tasks into manageable steps, creating effective routines, and taking greater ownership of their responsibilities.

Participants will leave with tools to help young people:
  • Build effective study habits and homework routines
  • Organize materials and manage tasks
  • Better understand time and plan ahead
  • Initiate and complete assignments more independently
  • Develop confidence and self-advocacy skills
This interactive program will provide caregivers with practical strategies they can begin using right away to help children and teens become more organized, independent, and prepared for the demands of school and life.
