Dear K-4 Families,

Our Lincoln School 4th graders are officially concluding their time "at our end" of the building! They are ready for the next exciting chapter in their educational journey, and they have so much to celebrate. Yesterday, families joined us for "Comic-Con and Meet the Authors," where students shared their original graphic novels and writing pieces. They are truly impressive writers!

Our final Closing Meeting took us on a wonderful roller coaster of emotions. Here are a few of the special highlights:
  • Mrs. B announced the class that earned free library time for being the first to return all of their books. Congratulations to KM, who has officially secured a 2-year winning streak!
  • Mrs. B drew one lucky name from the pool of students who returned their books on time. Congratulations to Axel (2nd Grade), who won the honor of naming our library house pups Smokey and Fred!
  • Each 4th grader shared a favorite Lincoln School memory. It was touching to hear about their special connections with teachers, fun experiences spanning from Kindergarten through 4th grade, and the deep friendships they've formed. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, growth, and the caring citizens they are becoming.
  • We took a walk down memory lane with a photo slideshow of our year. It was wonderful to look back at students playing in the snow, enjoying Field Day, building, performing, solving math problems, counting coins, organizing cereal boxes, creating art, reading, exploring the boardwalk, and spending time with our beloved therapy dogs, Penny and Piper.

We also acknowledged some bittersweet departures as we say goodbye to two cherished staff members:
  • Mrs. Maureen Markelz: After over a decade of dedicated service to our district as a literacy tutor, literacy specialist, and Instructional Coach, Mrs. Markelz is moving on to become an Assistant Principal in Dover!
  • Ms. Lyssa McGrath: Our wonderful 2nd Grade Teacher will be leaving us to work with older students in a different district.
While it is always tough to say goodbye, we are thrilled for our colleagues as they pursue these wonderful new opportunities.

We closed out our meeting with some classic end-of-year silliness. Armed with safety goggles and a poncho, I braced myself as five students targeted me with silly string! The top point earner from School Adventure Week won the ultimate prize of silly-stringing the principal—it was chaotic, messy, and incredibly fun.

The excitement carried right over into today’s 5th Annual Staff vs. 4th Grade Kickball Game. In a historic turn of events, the 4th graders won 19-18! Because we didn't officially track scores in the early years of this tradition, we believe this is the first time the students have taken home the victory. Congratulations, 4th grade!
An incredible school year requires an incredible community. Many thanks to all of the support from our our school organizations and the district: LPTO, MCC, LMPB, and LSF, as well as the LPS School Committee and Central Office.

Finally, to our families: your collaboration is essential to everything we do. Thank you for your commitment, partnership, and for navigating the ups and downs of the year alongside us to best support your child’s growth.

Wishing you all a safe, happy, and relaxing summer!

Warmly,
Sarah
