K-4 Family Updates Newsletter

January 30, 2026

A Message from the Principal

Dear K-4 Families,

Thanks to all of the car drop-off caregivers who have made adjustments to ensure we have a safe arrival in the morning! I also wanted to share that our arrival staff will be stationed at the front of the car line and along the drop-off zone. They will be there to direct the traffic, cross the pedestrians, and supervise the students along the drop-off zone.

Report cards will be mailed out next Wednesday, February 4th. They will provide information on your child's growth in social development and work habits, as well as the achievement of specific standards - what students should know and be able to do at the end of the first semester. We use two rating scales:

Growth as a Learner
C = Consistently (all the time, independently)
O = Often (frequently, reasonable amount)
S = Sometimes (occasionally, but not enough)
I = Infrequently (rarely, this is a problem)

Standards-based Scoring
4 = Exceeding the grade level standard at this time
3 = Achieving the grade level standard at this time
2 = Progressing toward the grade level standard at this time
1 = Performing below the grade level standard at this time

Some students may also receive an attendance letter per our district policy on school absences.

We have parent-teacher conferences coming up in March (3/25, 4/1 and 4/8), however, you should always feel free to reach out to your child's teacher(s) if you have any questions or concerns about their report card.

The PTO has been hard at work preparing for Bingo night tonight! Pizzas are coming, there are prizes and raffles to be won, and of course there will be tons of fun playing BINGO!

Please join me in congratulating Monika Nixon who is leaving her current position as the Administrative Assistant to the Principals to a new role as the METCO Coordinator at Curtis Middle School in Sudbury. Be sure to wish her well before her last day, February 13th!

We are also wishing a fond farewell to Emily Pabón (2nd Grade Assistnat) who will be moving to Texas in April. She will be here until March 20th so we will appreciate having her with us for the next month+!

Bittersweet changes, and though we will miss them, we wish Monika and Emily all the best in their next chapters!

We are doing a K-4 Kindness Challenge! Students and staff can write a "kindness heart" note about someone who says or does something kind! Some highlights from this week are a student being patient, sharing Magnatiles, cleaning tables and helping a friend when their headphones were stuck! Teachers are also reading some of the kindness hearts in classrooms so they can hear about all of the kindness and feel good about the kind words and deeds in their class. Next Thursday, all of the kindness hearts will be added to the birch trees in the Learning Commons!

Hope to see you at our rescheduled Community Meeting on 2/6!

Sincerely,
Sarah
