A Message from the Principal

Dear K-4 Families,

Today we join the nation in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. May we all continue to lead with kindness, stand for justice, and dream of a brighter future for all our children.

Last Thursday was the 1st Grade Student Learning Spotlight at the School Committee meeting! Lincoln and Hanscom first graders shared their work from the first EL Literacy Curriculum module called Be a Maker! Solve Problems and Create Fun. The students began by reading about kid inventions like "Boo Boo Goo" and the story Abby Invents Unbreakable Crayons
Embedded in these lessons were opportunities to learn about habits of character: initiative, perseverance, collaboration and responsibility.

Each first-grade class chose a unique "Maker Mission" to help their school community or create fun. They wrote and revised their plans and got to work! 1S made cards and ramps, 1L made fidgets and storage for their cozy corner, and 1L made a lost and found for the first grade hallway. Whether working independently or in partners, the students showed incredible teamwork. They painted, labeled, and decorated their inventions, proving that anyone—no matter how small—can be an inventor.  Our student presenters were outstanding ambassadors for our school!

Sincerely,
Sarah
