Ballfield Road, Lincoln, Massachusetts 01773

Today is Wednesday, July 09.
School is closed today.
Welcome to the website of the Lincoln Public Schools. We are continuing our efforts to communicate broadly about the programs and operations of our district and this newly redesigned website is one of our efforts. On behalf of the school district I would like to thank The Ogden Codman Trust which funded the development and this year’s maintenance of the website with a generous grant. The Ogden Codman Trust has been supportive of the Lincoln Public Schools and in the past few years has supported the development of the district’s Strategic Plan for Teaching with Technology, professional development programs for our faculty and the Lincoln School’s instrumental music program (which is now included in the annual operating budget).

In addition to general information about the operations of our schools (annual calendar, an events calendar, bus routes, school lunch menu, listing of faculty, etc.) you will also find information about our District Goals for 2006-07 and Beyond, School Committee meetings (agenda and topics for discussion, agenda and minutes), the district’s curriculum and learning expectations, policy statements, health information, budget updates, information about educational programs, such as special education and preschool, and school specific pages.

We are now nearly halfway through the 2006-2007 school year. Our new principals have established themselves in their roles and are beginning to demonstrate the strong leadership needed to bring our schools forward. The teachers hired last spring are making positive contributions in their classrooms and as members of the faculty. We continue to make progress on this year’s goals and work plans and look forward to making mid-year reports to the School Committee in February.

The administration presented a FY08 Budget to the School Committee for consideration. The budget is designed to maintain all of the existing programs, small class sizes, and meet the contractual obligations of the school department. I anticipate that we will meet the guidelines of the Finance Committee for a base budget. Modest improvements will be proposed for the preferred budget. Final budget discussions will take place at School Committee meetings on January 4 and 18, 2007. The Lincoln School also received support from the Capital Planning Committee for capital investments in technology and facilities.

On the Hanscom campus we recently completed and submitted our proposal to the federal government for the continued operation of the Hanscom schools.

In the upcoming months we will focus on a community-wide survey to determine the currency and effectiveness of the district’s vision and mission statements, a personnel search to appoint an Assistant Superintendent as a result of retirement, implementation of the district´s recently redesigned emergency plan, completion of the facilities master plan study, and the mandated Department of Education Coordinated Program Review [CPR]. The CPR will address special education, methods of administration (civil rights), and programming for English Language Learners.
