CURRICULUM

The goals of the Lincoln Public Schools express the district commitment to providing curriculum and instruction that engage all students at high levels. The district supports the continual improvement of curriculum design, instructional approaches and assessment methods, and it recognizes the essential roles teachers have in that process. Thoughtful and systematic curriculum planning, therefore, is a high priority.

This commitment also includes the responsibility to communicate clearly the curriculum content and the specific learning expectations for each curriculum area. To the left are links to information about several curriculum areas. For each of these areas you will find a Content Overview (for K-8 or a shorter span of grades) and other relevant information about the curriculum area. In some instances you will also find links to PDF versions of the specific learning expectations for units of study or strands of instruction within a subject area. Projects for identifying curriculum content for each grade and specifying the Learning Expectations for units and strands are ongoing. As this work continues, additional information will appear on these pages.

The Assistant Superintendent of the Lincoln School District provides overall direction to the work on curriculum. Faculty curriculum leaders and members of the teaching staff from the Lincoln and Hanscom schools actively collaborate on specific projects and initiatives that support curriculum improvement.

Using the menus on the left you can explore the curriculum information for mathematics, social studies, science, foreign language and health.

Following curriculum initiatives

A significant portion of the District's annual goals address topics such as curriculum, instruction and professional development. You can view the specifics of the goals on these web pages. During the course of the year, reports on the status of work toward these goals are presented and discussed at public meetings of the School Committee. In addition, special reports on specific curriculum initiatives are also delivered at School Committee meetings. Consult the School Committee's long term agenda on these web pages to see the schedule for these discussions.
