• Dear Parents:

Hanscom students in Grades 7 and 8 are eligible to audition for the MMEA-ED (Massachusetts Music Educators Association – Eastern District) Junior Festival.  The audition will occur at 11:30 AM on Saturday January 26, 2013 at Concord Carlisle Regional High School. Students will need to arrive at CCHS by 10:45 AM that day to check in and warm up.  Because, in my capacity as MMEA-ED Executive Secretary, I must be on site at 7:00 AM to handle registering students from other schools, I am not able to provide transportation.  Parents will be needed to assume responsibility to transport auditioning students to the event on that date.

Information about MMEA-ED can be found at:

Students who wish to audition for the Junior Festival must prepare a predetermined musical selection corresponding to their instrument or voice register.  In addition, they must demonstrate proficiency in singing or playing scales and sight-reading music. The audition requirements are listed on the site under Junior Festival.

The audition time slot at Concord Carlisle Regional High School is approximate and might vary by up to an hour if other schools become backed up.  Our District auditions are “blind” auditions, meaning that the judges are positioned behind a screen as the students perform.  The students perform for the judges but do not see them; the judges hear the students but do not see them.  Even though this is the case, the event is still a dress up event; I have found that students who dress for success are more likely to do well.

Instrumentalists who are interested in representing Hanscom Middle School at the auditions, must prepare the audition piece and scales with their private teacher.  Vocalists who wish to audition must rehearse regularly with Mr. Worona on Thursday mornings at 7:15 AM and also practice the choral piece at home.  Choral candidates are required to download the MP3 audition tracks from either the MMEA-ED website or from Mr.Worona’s webpage. Audition fees are paid for by the school.

Students, whose audition scores are the highest of the entire pool who audition, will qualify to perform at the Festival in March.  This year, the Junior Festival will be held on Friday and Saturday March 8 & 9, 2013 at Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School. The Festival brings together the very best musicians, from grades 7, 8 and 9, from schools in the Eastern part of Massachusetts, to perform as part of a Mixed Choir, Treble Choir, Orchestra,Jazz Band and Concert Band.

Students who intend to audition must clear their calendars and commit to being available on all above mentioned dates.  They must also rehearse regularly with either their private teacher or with Mr. Worona.

I am officially registering students for the festival as of January 9.  Please confirm by Email(below) that your child will indeed be available to meet the audition and Festival Schedule (should he or she be accepted).  Seeing as I must commit to pay for the auditions, it is wasteful to send in money for students who cannot actually take part. Therefore, I will only register students whose parents confirm availability and commit to holding the dates. Please also let me know ASAP if you can drive students to the audition.

Please call Mr. Worona at 781-274-7720 X 7414 or write him at woronah@lincnet.org with any questions or concerns
