No Child Left Behind Act Report Cards

On January 8, 2003, President Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) into law. NCLB calls for sweeping changes in public education with an emphasis on accountability. One of the changes is the federal requirement that all states and school districts that receive federal Title I assistance must publish annual report cards.

The purpose of the report card is to provide parents with about their child’s school district in terms of academic achievement and professional qualifications of teachers. The Lincoln Public Schools do not receive Title I assistance and are not required to publish an annual report card. The district is, however, publishing an annual report card as part of our effort to provide accountability data to parents or our students and our community.
