Visiting Bus
The METCO Coordinating Committee sponsors a Visiting Bus which provides Boston resident students an opportunity to visit with Lincoln resident friends. The Visiting Bus begins in October, on the second Wednesday of each month. The bus departs from the Hartwell parking lot at 4:00 p.m. (students must be there no later than 3:55 p.m.) This bus will deliver all students to METCO, Inc., 40 Dimock Street in Roxbury at approximately 4:45 p.m. Parents are responsible for picking up their children at METCO, Inc. The procedure for arranging a play date is simple:
- CONTACT the parent or guardian of the child that you would like to get together with.
- FILL OUT THE BLUE VISITING BUS FORM. Click here for the form. There is a section for the Boston family to fill out and a section for the Lincoln family to fill out. In order for a Boston child to stay for a visit, both families must fill out their forms and return them to the school by the Tuesday before Visiting Day.
- EXCHANGE INFORMATION: Please be sure that both families know how to contact each other. The Boston family should know the home phone number of the Lincoln family. The Lincoln family should have the home and/or work number for the Boston family. Please be sure to check if there and allergies, food restrictions, or any other restrictions.
- GETTING THE CHILDREN ON VISITING DAY: You may pick up the children in the classroom (Kindergarten children) or the walkers' room (grades 1-5). Children from Boston may take the Lincoln buses to their friends' homes.
- CATCHING THE BUS BACK TO BOSTON: The METCO Visiting bus leaves the Hartwell complex at 4:00 p.m. Lincoln parents, please have your guests to the bus on time. If your guest misses the bus, you are responsible for contacting their parents and getting them home.
- PICKING CHILDREN UP IN BOSTON: The METCO Visiting bus is NOT the regular bus and does NOT drop Boston children off at their regular bus stops. The METCO Visiting Bus will bring the children to METCO Inc. on Dimock Street. Boston parents should be at METCO Inc. at 4:45 p.m. to meet their children.
