PROGRAM OF STUDIES
Here is a summary of the program of studies offered in our fifth through eighth grade classes. You can view specific information about the learning objectives and curriculum by going to the Curriculum area, which has a menu on the District tab of this web site. Lincoln Middle School houses grades five through eight in the Brooks School building. All students receive four academic subjects (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies) on a daily basis as well as specialized classes weekly for P.E., Art, and Music. Fifth grade students begin the study of a foreign language in an exploratory program that is continued in depth in grades 6-8. In addition, fifth and sixth grade students have a new Applied Technology course. Seventh and eighth grade students have three required enrichment courses that they take for a trimester each. In seventh grade the required enrichment courses are health, bridges to understanding (a course that allows children to explore issues of equity and justice as well as ways to combat stereotypes and welcome diversity), and MCAS preparation. Eighth grade students take health, bridges to understanding, and facing history (a study of the historical development of the Holocaust and how those historical events connect to the moral choices they confront in their own lives). Every Friday, students in grades 6-8 have an extended homeroom period called Connectors in which they address issues that arise in the school community with several adults.
