HPS Curriculum - Physical Education and Health
The Hanscom Primary School physical education program is developed and implemented to provide opportunities for growth through

selected movement experiences while recognizing the needs, abilities, and interests of each child. The physical education instructors allow each child to strive toward fulfilling his/her potentialities. Emphasis is on self-improvement and the ability to think through and analyze skills and strategies.

Developmental learning experiences are selected for the physical education program from the following primary level (grades k-3) a
ctivity areas:

. Basic motor skills
. Movement exploration
. Manipulative activities
. Fitness activities
. Rhythmic activities
. Individual and group challenge activities
. Gymnastics with apparatus
. Games of low organization
. Lead-up games to sport play
. Health is being incorporated into the school’s curriculum via the great body shop
Physical Education: Grades 1-3 meet twice per week for 50 minutes. Kkindergarten classes are 30 minutes each,
Health: Grades 1-2 meet once a week for 30 min. Grade 3 meets once a week for 45 minutes. Kindergarten health lessons are taught by classroom teachers.
