Curriculum: Music Program
Music is an essential component of every child's education. It is our goal to develop students' musical proficiency while reinforcing basic skills being taught in all other content areas. The program correlates with classroom curricula where possible and appropriate. Students are encouraged and supported in individual creative projects. Opportunities are also provided for large-group collaboration and cooperation toward achieving a common musical goal. We believe that appropriate facilities and equipment are essential to achieve the objectives of the program. All K-3 students receive instruction in music twice a week for 30 minute lessons.

The music program is designed to provide students with opportunities:

• To make music, alone and with others

• To improvise and create music

• To use and understand musical concepts taught at each grade level

• To become acquainted with a wide variety of music

• To be able to make aesthetic connections with music based on critical listening and analysis

• To help them develop an appreciation and understanding of music.

In addition, each grade level will give one formal performance for parents and friends during the course of the school year.
