Lincoln Public Schools has contracted Schoolwires, Inc.® to power and host our website. Our new website has several features that are designed to facilitate communication between the district and your household. In order to take full advantage of these features, you'll need to learn a bit about each of them. The tables below contain links to pdf files that will provide you with more information and specific instructions on how to make the most of these features.

To access some of these features, you must be a registered user of the website. Information on how to register can be found on the Website Registration page in the left navigation column.

Calendar

The interactive calendar has powerful filter options which allow you to see the kinds of events you're interested in, and to filter out other events. Think of it as one big, shared calendar for the district. You probably do not want to see every event posted on the calendar. Use filters to filter in the events you're interested in seeing, and filter out the other events. You can print events and event export them to your own calendar program.

Each section of the website has its own calendar. This means that, in addition to the main District Calendar, each school, each department, and each teacher can have their own calendar. No matter which calendar you're viewing (athletics, school level, teacher level...), by using filters, you can view events posted to other calendars. An exception to this rule is teacher (or classroom) calendars. To view events posted on a teacher's calendar, you must first navigate to that teacher's section, then click on their calendar. Be sure the box next to "Teacher Assignments" in your filter options is checked.

All files are in pdf {pdf} format.

Roles

Registered users are assigned a role or roles, such as "Parent" or "Teacher." Assigning roles to users allows us to password-protect certain content or areas of the website and to make them accessible only to the groups that require access. Most of the content on the Lincoln Public Schools' website, nevertheless, is openly accessible to all. Be sure to sign in (top right of every page) to the website every time you visit so that you can see all the information available to your group.

Content e-Alerts

Registered users have the option of being notified when sections in which they are particularly interested are updated. For example, a parent can "subscribe" to a teacher's section and receive an automatic email announcing an important update to that section. The email includes a link to the updated page. Most parents will probably want to subsribe to the District's Homepage. Homepage subscribers will receive an email notification when an important, time-sensitive Announcement has been issued. This is one way the superintendent announces weather-related school delays or closings.

Users can disable this feature by checking the "OFF" option for the "Your e-Alert are ..." question. The default option is OFF. To modify these settings, registered users will click the "Access Info" button that appears at the top of the page of a signed-in user.
.

RSS Feeds

An RSS Feed is another way users can receive information from this and other websites. RSS feeds are similar to Content e-Alerts, but they require users to have software called an RSS Reader or RSS Aggregator installed on their computer. There are many free RSS Readers available. For more information, select the RSS Feeds link in the table below.

Teacher Pages

As teachers receive training on how to create websites, a link to their website will be posted in the Teacher Pages Directory.

Forms and Surveys

By converting paper forms into digital forms, this feature will help the district with its goal of using less paper. The Online Parent Registration form is an example of this feature.
