The Lincoln Public Schools has a notably strong commitment to quality education and opportunities for all students including children with disabilities. Since coming to Lincoln in 2001, Mrs. Spencer has been working in the fifth grade as a special educator. She enjoys working closely with the fifth grade team to support students in all curriculum areas. Mrs. Spencer tries to help students gain a better understanding of their own learning needs. She teaches children how to help themselves by finding and/or creating individualized learning strategies. Mrs. Spencer has duel certification in Elementary Education and Moderate Special Needs. She received her Bachelor's degree in English and Elementary Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Mrs. Spencer received a Master's degree in Moderate Special Education from Simmons College. She is also certified to teach Wilson Reading. In her free time, Mrs. Spencer enjoys spending time with her family and trying out new restaurants!
Mrs. Smits has been teaching in Lincoln since 1999. She has worked at the Hanscom integrated preschool and in the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth grades in Lincoln. This is her third year as part of the sixth grade team. She enjoys working closely with the sixth grade team of general educators to facilitate inclusion and learning for all students. Mrs. Smits holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology with a Minor in Art History and a Masters Degree in Special Education (Intensive Needs K-12). Prior to working in Lincoln, Mrs. Smits taught preschool in New Hampshire and then spent three years teaching at the New England Center for Children. She is one of the districts Nonviolent Crisis Intervention trainers, and is currently working on becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Mrs. Smits is also trained in the Wilson Reading Program. Out of school, Mrs. Smits enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, cooking, traveling, and golfing. Ms. Nathanson has been teaching in Lincoln since 1989. She has three degrees: A B.S. in Physical Education, a M.A in Guidance Counseling, and a M.A. in Special Education. Ms. Nathanson had the opportunity to teach in Florida, California, Virginia, and Korea while her husband was in the Air Force. She has coached soccer, basketball, and softball for the Lincoln School. She is presently coaching the girlís field hockey team with Ms. Dolce. Each year, Ms. Nathanson volunteers to organize and supervise the hair and make-up design for the fall and spring theatrical productions. In addition, she is the director of the annual Talent show.
